On October 28, 2026, the CV girls field hockey team faces Mechanicsburg in the first round of district play. They unfortunately came up short in their first playoff game last year versus Hempfield, but are ready to use their past mistakes to advance this year.

Our field hockey team has a new mindset going into this game. “…Go into the game with a good attitude and mindset also to have high energy… and to take every opportunity we get”, Brooke Harting (10). With the season on the line, every opportunity is an important one.

Junior player Brianne Buckwalter mentioned “…last year was a big confidence boost for us because we were able to prove to ourselves that we are capable of and deserve to be in the playoffs”. Prior to last year’s season, they hadn’t qualified for districts since 2020. Buckwalter added, “I think we are the underdogs who nobody expected to make it into the

postseason.” The team losing a lot of heavy hitter seniors, and changing from section 2 to 1, made people doubt whether they were going to perform well again this year.

The team has been using the practices to help make sure everyone is prepared and understands the gameplan going into the game. “We have practiced offensive corners, shooting drills, and shootouts that could happen in overtime. We had a scrimmage yesterday that helped us practice man marking 2 players, which we will be doing in our first district game”, said freshmen Morgan Smith.
