Starting in August 2026, Conestoga Valley High School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Hartman banned any personal devices during classes. Administration said that this would start easing students into the upcoming statewide phone ban.

Senior Joshua Colon, who has never used a personal device for schoolwork, stated, “I think the no more personal device ban is kind of good because I know some of my friends would get distracted and play games instead of doing schoolwork.”

However, when asked if he had to choose between the school issued ipad or use a personal device, if he had one, Colon said he would like to try using a personal device for faster and more efficient schoolwork.

Noah Farmer (12), who used to use a personal ipad for some schoolwork last year says he “would like to be able to use his [personal] ipad for his more techy class and activities… like Kahoot.”

Senior Carson Anderson, who always used his personal laptop last year, said that he “is struggling to keep up with schoolwork.” Anderson’s complaint is about the speed at which the ipads work. Speed was the main complaint from students who used personal devices last year.

According to cityandstatepennsylvania.com, the proposed Senate Bill 1014 does extend to “smartphones, watches, and tablets.” Next year CV students can expect even tighter restrictions.
